Construction Method
Goodyear Welt
グッドイヤーウェルト
The Goodyear welt is the gold standard of boot construction, named after Charles Goodyear Jr. who invented the machine to automate the process. A strip of leather (the welt) is stitched to both the upper and a rib attached to the insole, then the outsole is stitched to the welt. This creates a water-resistant channel and allows multiple resoles over the boot's lifetime.
